About the Battle
Gothic cavalry destroyed a Roman army and killed Emperor Valens. The worst Roman defeat since Cannae, 700 years earlier. Marked the beginning of the end for the Western Roman Empire. Showed that barbarian armies could defeat Roman legions in open battle. Refugees from the Huns had become Romes destroyers.
