About the Battle

Andrew Jacksons ragtag army of regulars, pirates, militia, and free men of color entrenched behind earthworks and mowed down advancing British columns. The British commander Pakenham was killed. Over 2,000 British casualties against roughly 70 American. Unknown to both sides, the war had already ended with the Treaty of Ghent. The victory made Jackson a national figure and carried him to the presidency.
