About the Battle

The last great crusade of the Middle Ages ended in disaster. French knights refused to wait for the allied Hungarian infantry and charged Ottoman lines, riding into stakes and trap lines. Bayezid I annihilated the flower of European chivalry. Thousands of prisoners were executed the next morning, nobles ransomed. Sigismund of Hungary escaped by boat down the Danube. Europe never again launched a pan-continental crusade by land.
