About the Battle

The first decisive battlefield victory of handheld firearms at scale. Spanish arquebusiers and German landsknecks shattered repeated French cavalry charges and stormed the great park walls. King Francis I of France was captured fighting hand to hand. He wrote to his mother that all was lost except honor. The battle proved that pike and shot formations dominated the battlefield. Italy became a Habsburg chessboard.
