About the Battle

The Roman legion defeated the Macedonian phalanx in its final great battle. The flexible maniples outflanked the unwieldy pike blocks on broken ground. King Perseus fled and Macedon was abolished as a kingdom by Rome. The battle demonstrated that the legion system had superseded the phalanx of Alexander. The classical Greek military era ended here.
