About the Battle

The decisive encirclement of the French army under Emperor Napoleon III. Prussian artillery dominated the field from surrounding heights. Out of options, Napoleon III ordered the white flag and surrendered himself with over 80,000 men. The Second Empire collapsed and the Third Republic was proclaimed in Paris. German unification was completed in the Hall of Mirrors months later.
