About the Battle

Charles Martel halted the Muslim advance into Western Europe. Whether it truly saved Christendom is debated, but it marked the limit of Islamic expansion into Western Europe. The Frankish infantry stood firm against cavalry charges. Some historians argue it was a raid, not an invasion, but its symbolic importance is enormous.
