About the Battle

Polish winged hussars led the largest cavalry charge in history, 18,000 horsemen, breaking the Ottoman siege. The battle stopped Ottoman expansion into Europe permanently. The Viennese discovered coffee beans left behind by the retreating Ottomans, allegedly starting the Viennese coffee house tradition. Jan Sobieski arrived at the head of the relief army.
