About the Battle
A decisive Arab victory that opened Syria and the Levant to Islamic conquest. Khalid ibn al-Walid commanded the Muslim army against a much larger Byzantine force. The battle raged for six days. Byzantine morale collapsed and the empire lost its richest provinces outside Anatolia. The permanent frontier between the Islamic world and Christendom in the Near East traces to this battle.
