About the Battle

Lysander caught the entire Athenian fleet beached and unmanned, destroying or capturing 170 ships in minutes. The Athenian crews were caught eating lunch ashore. Without a fleet, Athens could not import grain and surrendered within a year. The Long Walls were torn down to the sound of flutes. The Peloponnesian War ended with Spartan hegemony.
