About the Battle
The first great triumph of the English longbow. Edward III and the Black Prince defeated a French army perhaps three times their size. Genoese crossbowmen were outranged and ridden down by their own knights. Thousands of French nobles died charging the muddy slope. The first major battle of the Hundred Years War set its pattern for decades. Knights were obsolete but did not know it yet.
