About the Battle

Both leaders died: Prince Lazar was captured and executed, Sultan Murat was assassinated. Serbia became an Ottoman vassal. The battle became a founding myth of Serbian national identity. The Kosovo myth still influences Balkan politics today. A Serbian noble assassinated the Sultan by posing as a deserter.
