Battle of Friedland
About the Battle
Napoleon destroyed the Russian army of Bennigsen as it stood with its back to a river. Attacking late in the day, the French pinned the Russians against the Alle in the summer heat. Russia sued for peace, and the Treaty of Tilsit followed on a raft on the Niemen. Napoleon stood at the height of his power. The Continental System against Britain was agreed with the defeated tsar.
