About the Battle

Batu Khan and Subutai destroyed the Hungarian army in a single day. King Bela IV fled to the Adriatic. Estimates suggest a quarter of the Hungarian population died in the invasion that followed. Mongol catapults and fire arrows torched the crowded camp. Hungary was raided and dominated for decades. The Mongols withdrew after the Great Khan died, sparing the rest of Europe.
