About the Battle
The final land battle of the Persian invasion of Greece. The largest Greek hoplite army ever assembled crushed the remaining Persian forces. Mardonius, the Persian commander, was killed. The victory completed the work of Salamis and ended Persian ambitions in Europe. Herodotus ends his Histories with this battle and its aftermath.
