About the Battle

Themistocles lured the Persian fleet into narrow waters where their numbers were a disadvantage. The Greek victory saved Western civilization according to many historians. Xerxes watched from a golden throne on shore as his fleet was destroyed. Aeschylus, who fought there, later wrote a play about it.
