About the Battle
Germany destroyed the Russian Second Army, capturing 92,000 prisoners. Named after the 1410 battle as symbolic revenge. Hindenburg and Ludendorff became national heroes. The Russian advance into East Prussia was stopped. Two Russian corps commanders committed suicide rather than report the disaster.
