About the Battle
Hannibal enveloped and destroyed a Roman army of 80,000, killing 50,000-70,000 in a single day. The double envelopment tactic is still studied in every military academy. Rome lost more soldiers in one day than any other battle in its history. Hannibal could have marched on Rome but lacked the siege equipment.
