About the Battle
Scipio Africanus defeated Hannibal on his home ground, ending the Second Punic War. Hannibal, undefeated for 16 years, finally met his equal. Carthage was stripped of its empire and navy. Hannibal fled and eventually took poison rather than surrender to Rome. Rome became the dominant Mediterranean power.
