About the Battle
Hannibal concealed his entire army in the hills and morning fog beside the lake and annihilated a Roman army marching in column. Up to 15,000 Romans died, including the consul Flaminius. The largest ambush in military history. Rome refused to fight Hannibal in open battle afterward, adopting the delaying Fabian strategy. Hannibal lost relatively few men.
