About the Battle
Consuls Nero and Livius combined armies to destroy the relieving army of Hasdrubal, brother of Hannibal. Hasdrubal was killed in the battle. According to legend, his severed head was thrown into Hannibals camp. Hannibal knew then that his hope of reinforcements was dead and retreated to Bruttium. Called by historians the battle that decided the fate of the war.
